How do I get my parents to buy me the bra I want?

We receive emails everyday from girls asking this question. It seems that some parents don’t like to discuss these issues with their daughters; and some don’t want their girls to grow up. As parents, seeing your daughter becoming a woman can be a very scary thing.

Some parents refuse to buy their daughters a bra all; hoping that the issue will just go away. For a girl developing breast this can be an embarrassing time. Newly developing breast can be even more noticeable through a shirt then fully developed breast. A bra can provide some coverage during this awkward time.

Beyond the actually need for a bra; girls like to look cute, even if no one will see it. There are a wide variety of bras that are comfortable, functional, and look good. Getting a parent to buy the bra you want, that’s a different matter all together.

The best and sometimes hardest way to get your parents to buy the bra you like is to talk with them. Don’t try to do it while they are busy, or have other things on their mind; instead find a time when you can get their full attention. Simply tell them that you need to ask them some questions about girl stuff, or your body; this will usually get their attention. Some parents are not comfortable talking about this stuff, but most parents will take the time once they know what you want to discuss.

We can’t tell you what to say, but in general just be open, and honest. While talking with your parent keep in mind that they may be worried about why you want these things. Parents may have the following fears:

  • “That you want a pretty bra and panties for someone else to see.”
  • “That you want these things because of peer pressure from your friends; just to fit in.”
  • “That these things may be the start of becoming sexually active.”
  • “That you are trying to grow up way too fast.”

Most parents really do have your best interest in mind; but they are not always open about their reasons. Once you understand their concerns you will be better equipped to talk with them about these things.

Another way to get your parents to buy the bra you want is to show them what you want. You can create a gift registry, or a wish list at the Girls Basics bra shop. This will allow you to save your favorite selection of bras and panties so you can show them what you like. You can even send these items via email.

Another way is to get them to purchase a gift certificate at the bra shop; this way you can simply by the items you like. Keep in mind that most of these features will require you to be 13 or older to create an account. If you are under 13 just get your parents to create an account for you.

We wish you luck talking with your parents, and finding the right bra!
